The Magnificat or Song of Mary is found in the biblical Gospel of Luke. I am reminded of the version I grew up with in the Catholic church each time I see an image of Mary along the Road. And there are A LOT of images of Mary here. I am no longer a practicing Catholic but I think the same spirit was speaking to me today when this, My Magnificat, came to me on the Road to Santiago.
My Magnificat
My soul rages in the fire of Love, and my spirit dances on the embers of the divine for they have shown me the depth of my emptiness,
and from this place, filled me and made me whole.
Blazing, devouring Love is a merciful, adoring mother,
she cradles me and assures I have nothing to fear.
She calls me to be her handmaid,
And in service to her I too am Holy.
She lifts me to my feet when I stumble, and lets loose the stubborn ego within me,
prying my clinging fingers one by one.
She casts down all the gods I falsely revere,
and rips my worries from their thrones, then lifts me to her breast,
like a newborn baby.
She sates the famine of my heart with simple joy, and dispels my craving, my endless hunt, for proof of my value.
Her searing devotion rescues me from myself bringing to fruition her only promise —
that I am deserving merely because she chose me,
to burn on this Earth for a short while.
My soul rages in the fire of Love, and my spirit dances on the embers of the divine for they have shown me the depth of my emptiness,
and from this place, filled me and made me whole.

Magdalene along the Camino de Santiago
46 And Mary said,
“My soul magnifies the Lord, 47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, 48 for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed; 49 for the Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name. 50 His mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation. 51 He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts. 52 He has brought down the powerful from their thrones, and lifted up the lowly; 53 he has filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away empty. 54 He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, 55 according to the promise he made to our ancestors, to Abraham and to his descendants forever.”
